Institutionalizing Public Narrative for survivor leadership with International Justice Mission

In 2020, the human rights agency International Justice Mission began its exciting journey with LCN to center Public Narrative in their work to enable survivors of violence to find their voice and advocate for justice system reform. To date, they have held in-person workshops with survivor leaders in 8 countries – Philippines, Ghana, Uganda, Kenya, Guatemala, Bolivia, El Salvador, and the Dominican Republic – as well as scaling the work through training the local office staff as trainers, with incredible stories of leadership and agency emerging from the community.

In this event, we explored their lessons, successes, and challenges in this rich journey – from the internal work of getting the practice to take root within the organization to adapting the Public Narrative concepts and curriculum for an audience across a wide spectrum of literacy, access to technology, and culture.
