Haiyya is a remarkable grassroots organization in India. The group conducts their important work based on four central pillars: campaigns; capacity building; consulting; and community networking. Haiyya's campaigns have focused on everything from climate change to de-stigmatizing healthcare in India. For this case study, we interviewed Sreejani Malakar, Senior Manager of Leadership Development & Curriculum Design at Haiyya, to learn more about the important role that teams and structure play in her organization's important work.

Abstract

Haiyya is an Indian organization working toward designing and building a strong, powerful, organized network of sexual and reproductive health workers, activists, organizations, and campaigners in India. Their goal is to drive the conversation around access to stigma free sexual and reproductive healthcare, while also effecting policy-level shifts. Sreejani Malakar, Senior Manager of Leadership Development & Curriculum Design at Haiyya, plays a central role in these efforts. For this mini case study, we sat down with Malakar to learn more about the role that teams and structure play in her organization’s march toward improving healthcare in India.

Our team structure gave people ownership and created momentum. It allowed us to build relationships and show the urgency of the issue to the decision-making bodies in healthcare. – Sreejani Malakar Senior Manager— Leadership Development & Curriculum Design
