The Leading Change Network's Underground Coaching Program tips, slides and guides for organizing, narrative, coaching and facilitating teams.

Introduction

Dear CIT’s (Coaches in Training):

Welcome aboard and thanks for joining The Underground Coaching Program! These pages offer you some tips for facilitating teams during the 2021 Fellowship Launch and beyond. We’ll work through these practices during our 7 sessions together.

Please plan to use this guide in conjunction with the sample participant guide, which includes curriculum content for the People.Power.Change framework.

This facilitation guide includes:

  • The ROLE AND RESPONSIBILITIES of a facilitator.
  • A WALK-THROUGH of how to successfully and effectively facilitate the organizing training sessions.
  • BEST PRACTICES on coaching strategies to address common challenges and questions. The tips and strategies provided move from general to specific, guiding you through coaching process for each module. We begin each section with a focus on key learning objectives. These objectives are intended to guide your decision-making process as a facilitator. We have also included common challenges you may encounter along the way. Know that we have all experienced challenges on our ongoing journey of discovery and practice.

While this guide may be helpful, there is no script. We find it helpful to engage this process with a growth mindset about your own capacity for learning. Trust your judgment and remember one thing: leadership is accepting responsibility for enabling others to achieve shared purpose in the face of uncertainty. It all starts with you digging in, owning your role, and using that role to support others to do the same.

Hello Organizers,

Welcome to The Underground: Building the muscle of coaching as a pathway to liberation. My name is [Coach name] and I will be your Coach for the program.

This will be an exciting learning experience for all of us, so let’s get started!

As we get ready for the launch of the program and the first section on [Date] there are few things to do. Over this week and next, I would like to set up a one-to-one meeting with each of you individually. This is a way to get to know each other, and prepare for the meaningful work we will do together.

This will be a 20-minute chat where we will:

  • learn more about each other
  • explore what you’re hoping to learn
  • program overview and clarify commitments
  • discuss any questions you may have

To set this up, could you kindly:

  • Click on this Calendy link [INSERT LINK https://calendly.com/ (insert zoom link in calendly invite)] and set a time when you will be available to connect on Zoom. I am based out of [Coach Location/Time Zone (Ex. EDT)], so please make sure the time zone is set correctly (to your zone) when you select a time.
  • I will send you a Zoom link for our meeting.
  • Before the meeting, please test to ensure your mic and video are working well.

I’m curious to learn more about you and what brings you to this work. Consider the following questions: What calls you to this opportunity to deepen your capacity to coach and facilitate the learning of others? What do you hope to learn or get out of this program? What do you hope to contribute?

Also, you will have received a calendar invite for all of the upcoming sessions. Please go ahead and accept this to ensure it is in your calendar. Please let me know if you have not got this calendar invite.

Looking forward to our meeting!

Best,
